Vista on my Mac
I am testing Vista and MS Office 2007 on my Macbook. I wanted to experience “the Wow”. I am using Parallels and so I haven’t been able to take advantage of all the Vista eye candy, since at the moment Parallels does not support 3d Graphics. This is a bit of a bummer since Vista seems to be just a bit fatter version of XP with cool graphics. I do like the gadgets. And the new windows button and interface is improved over xp. The real bummer is that the main reason that I use Parallels is to access my PC only software produced by our Church’s Abingdon Press. Unfortunately, the blinking Folio Views software does not run in Vista. So I am keeping XP on my machine too.
The real Wow is the new MS Word 2007. It runs very fast on my Mac and the ribbon is pretty cool. I was skeptical but with just a few minutes with the new interface I think it is very cool. Even Julie thought it remarkable and she is not a big fan of change at least when a computer is involved.
Julie must get this from her Mom who just purchased a Gateway and ordered it with XP instead of Vista. Even with my less than “Wow” experience with Vista I would not recommend downgrading to XP if your purchasing a new computer. Unless you want to run the Abingdon Press Folio Views software.
Even with this in mind. I would recommend the following. 1) If your buying a new computer Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo get Vista. But 2) if your thinking about upgrading your old machine to Vista wait. The best way to upgrade to Vista is to buy a new machine. I recommend the this Gateway that my mom just purchased for under $800. 4) for Mac users using Parallels to use antiquated pc software stick with XP it runs with a smaller foot print on the hard drive and ram and is quicker. And you can be certain that said antiquated software will work. 5) for Mac users who run Boot Camp Vista’s eye candy will run great ie Boot Camp utilizes the 3d graphics and that make it all worth the Vista purchase. Make sure you purchase the OEM version as it will save you more than $100. Or get it from a Microsoft Employee.
Hasta La Vista.
